Archmere's Rugby Team Wins National Title Second Year In A Row

This past weekend at the Talen Energy Stadium in suburban Philadelphia, the Archmere Rugby team competed in the National High School Rugby Championship (HSRC) and once again brought home the first place trophy. This season, the Auks were not only Delaware State Rugby Champions in 7's and 15's, they also claimed the Subaru Sevens Tournament before moving on to the national title games on June 4th and 5th, where 40 of the nation's top high school boys & girls Rugby teams competed during the 2016 Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championship. 

Archmere defeated Media 22-5 in the semis, and sailed past West Chester 24-19 in the final championship game. In the final game, Archmere's tries were from Nick Udovich '16, Alec Giakas '16, Tanner McIlrath '16, and Connor Ruggieri '18. Also in that final game, Noah Niumataiwalu '16 kicked two conversions. 


The two-day rugby festival, broadcasted by NBC Sports, is one of the largest gatherings of collegiate and high school rugby teams in the world. The Talen Energy Stadium in Philadelphia has been home to the Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championship since 2011.
