Our AP3D Design Fashion Students were challenged to design and create a full scale paper dress. This design challenge introduced students to the foundational concept of creating three dimensional form from 2D planes, an essential concept for pattern making. Students engaged with the design thinking process from start to finish, sketching and prototyping different material possibilities and creating mini scaled 3D versions of their designs before creating them at full scale in our recently upgraded dedicated Fashion Design studio in only 6 classes.
Matthew Chominski Presents at Villanova Conference
Theology Department Chair Matt Chominski recently presented a paper at Villanova University’s Patristic, Medieval, and Renaissance Conference. The Patristic, Medieval, and Renaissance Conference (PMR) is an annual academic conference hosted by Villanova University that gathers global scholars to present research on the history, theology, philosophy, and culture of the Mediterranean and European worlds from Late Antiquity through the Renaissance.
Matt's paper, titled “Motherly Francis: Bonaventure’s Life and Edith Stein on Woman and Man,” explored themes related to the writings of St. Bonaventure and Edith Stein.
The annual conference brings together scholars to share research and engage in discussions spanning the patristic, medieval, and Renaissance periods. This three-day event has been held since the mid-1970s and is a true tradition of scholarship.
Law and Legal Class Visits New Castle County Courthouse
Archmere’s Law and Legal class visited the New Castle County Courthouse to learn more about the legal profession. Students met with several attorneys who discussed different areas of law, the process of becoming a lawyer, and their professional experiences. The class also observed a preliminary hearing in the Court of Common Pleas, providing students with an opportunity to see courtroom proceedings firsthand.
Teaching for Divergent Design Solutions
Students in our new Architectural Design course just completed their first models. Student architects (10th-12th grade) were challenged to create an architectural concept using an identical kit of limited materials in only 5 classes. Students applied their conceptual understanding of the design process and their structural investigations for the beginning of the semester to create original designs integrating both form and function.
The incredible creativity and variety of the projects also reinforced the key design concept that there are an infinite number of successful outcomes for the exact same design challenge!

Creativity Catalysts
9th-12th grade students in our 3D Design Principles course completed large scale three dimensional foam structures, and then applied their new technical skills and foundational 3D design knowledge to an architectural design challenge, designing and building an architectural model using only two sheets of foam, a piece of plastic, and a scaled figure and/or tree.
