Archmere's Global Studies Partnership Featured in New Book "Where the Girls Bloom"
Archmere Academy's commitment to global education and meaningful international partnerships is highlighted in Where the Girls Bloom, a newly published book by longtime friend of the Academy Mary Cairns.
Where the Girls Bloom chronicles Cairns' 15-year journey with Pardada Pardadi, an extraordinary school for girls in rural northern India that has transformed educational opportunities for thousands of young women. Archmere's connection to the school began in 2015, when Cairns visited campus to share the Pardada Pardadi story with students and inspire support for its mission.
In 2017, with Mary's enthusiastic support, twelve Archmere girls, four teachers, and two moms traveled to India for nine days, visiting this remote school and its joyful students for three. Talking about their futures, learning Indian dances, playing athletic games, and attending classes together, all the students had a wonderful experience. The Archmere group then traveled within the Golden Triangle: New Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur, learning about and absorbing this completely different culture.
Archmere has its own moment in Mary's book: Chapter 37, "This Is India," was written by Tim Dougherty, Archmere's Global Studies Coordinator. Mr. Dougherty--with Vinita Lobo, Colleen Deemer, and John Jordan--was one of the four teachers who visited the school in 2017. The experience also inspired another international journey in 2023, when Dougherty led a second Archmere Global Studies trip to southern India. Twelve students traveled to visit two Norbertine schools while exploring the country's history, faith traditions, and diverse cultures. His reflections in "This is India" capture the profound impact the experience had on both students and faculty.
These experiences exemplify Archmere's Global Studies program, which encourages students to engage with the world through authentic cultural exchange, service, and experiential learning.
Congratulations to Mary Cairns on the publication of Where the Girls Bloom. The Archmere community is proud to be part of this remarkable story and the enduring partnership with Pardada Pardadi. We encourage readers to explore the book (found on Amazon) and discover how one school's mission has created lasting connections across the globe.
