Field Hockey Earns Thrilling Shootout Victory at Charter

Charter struck early, scoring just two minutes into the game. From there, freshman goalkeeper Hadleigh Shaw and the Archmere defense held strong, keeping the Force off the scoreboard for the remainder of regulation. The Auks continued to create opportunities throughout the game, including several penalty corners, but Charter's goalkeeper kept Archmere off the board.

With the clock winding down, Archmere finally broke through. The Auks earned a penalty corner with just 2:45 remaining in regulation. After Charter made a defensive save on the initial opportunity, senior Liliana Slijepcevic collected the rebound and found the back of the cage to even the score.

The teams remained tied through 10 minutes of seven-on-seven overtime, sending the game to a shootout—a new format introduced this season. Archmere took advantage of the opportunity.

Sophomore Lauren Wenger opened the shootout by working around the Charter goalkeeper and finding the open net. After another Archmere attempt was stopped, junior Juliet Polsky gave the Auks a 3-0 advantage with a determined finish, reaching for the ball from the ground and knocking it into the cage.

Meanwhile, Shaw was perfect in the shootout. She stopped Charter's first two attempts, then made the save needed to secure the victory for the Auks.

Hadleigh Shaw finished the game with nine saves, while Archmere earned nine penalty corners to Charter's seven. The Force held a 10-7 advantage in shots, but the Auks' defense and timely scoring made the difference.

The victory marked a memorable early-season test for Archmere and showcased the team's composure in a game that came down to the final moments.
