Today the College Counseling Office coordinated three programs, one for each of the Archmere classes. First year students participated in the Great Sorting Game, an exercise that introduced students to the College Counseling office, allowing our staff to share healthy messages about our office’s services and discuss items that may impact future admission decisions.
Sophomores & Juniors attended a Young Alumni College & Career Panel and listened to four amazing Archmere alumni share their college and early career journeys. Seniors attended a Young Alumni Networking Event where more than 25 alumni returned to individually discuss their jobs, career projectors, and college experience with seniors.
We are grateful to the 30+ alumni who volunteered their time to connect with current Auks and make today’s programming so meaningful. Thank you as well to everyone at Archmere who helped make the day a success, especially Ms. Soler for spearheading the coordination of a very busy and impactful schedule.
Individual Class News
Seniors: We’ve reached a semi lull in decisions until early-March. We highly recommend that families begin to, or finalize, their spring visits to attend accepted student days. While there may be more invitations to come with regular decision releases, reserve your spaces and have travel plans with what you know. College Counseling is available to discuss decisions, be a sounding board for students contemplating their options, and discuss financial aid awards. We are still processing scholarship application requests, and an occasional transcript request.
Juniors: We’ve opened the Junior Family Meeting calendar. As a reminder this meeting must occur during a student’s free period or after school. At least one parent or guardian must attend in-person or virtually.
In this week’s College Seminar class we discussed the qualities colleges have that make them different and students identified present priorities. This cycle’s homework is the Family Priorities exercise which requires a discussion with parents.
Next cycle we will discuss searching and researching colleges, now that qualities have been identified.
Sophomores: We will be attending Work Period classes next week to provide sophomores with their CIALFO access and also ask them to complete a personality assessment and a personality intelligences assessment to provide some career context and discussion. We also always welcome questions, emails, and student inquiries. Please know that you’re never a bother to us! Questions are speed bumps; they slow us down - we want to help you progress with accurate answers and good information. We will be assigning counselors prior to Spring Break in order to permit an optional meeting with a student’s counselor prior to course registration.
First-Year: Students, please know your questions are always welcome. Please email us, stop into our office, or approach us on campus to talk. We appreciate these early conversations.
