Girls' Soccer and Boys' Lacrosse Defeat Friends in Top 5 Showdowns

On April 25th, both the Archmere Girls' Soccer Team and the Boys' Lacrosse Team took on Wilmington Friends in regular season games. The girls played at home while the boys traveled to the Quaker's field. The games were battles of two of the top teams in each sport, as both the Archmere Girls' Soccer Team and the Boys' Lacrosse Team are ranked fourth in their division, while the respective Friends' teams ranked fifth. The Archmere teams caught the eye of Mike Lang of The Dialog, who published articles on both games.

Of the soccer game, Mike Lang wrote, "The Auks controlled the ball and the tempo throughout the first half, using an aggressive pressure defense to keep the Quakers at bay."

Archmere won 2-1 with goals by seniors Dara Dawson and Maddie Law. Archmere ended the game with ten shots and five corner kicks. Archmere junior and goalie Nicole Witherell made two saves for the victory. The Auks improved to 8-1 and host St. Georges Tech on Monday at 3:45 p.m.

Mike Lang also covered the boys' lacrosse game, noting "Wilmington Friends built up a 5-2 lead after one quarter, but Archmere took control after that and defeated the Quakers, 17-12, in a matchup of the fourth- and fifth-ranked boys lacrosse teams in the state".

Archmere junior Mitch Moyer led the game with seven goals, while juniors Nolan Collins and Brian Neill added three goals each. Junior Cole Bauer added two goals, and seniors Jacob DiBattista and Luke Grant each added one. The Archmere team finished with 26 shots, and senior goalie Connor Smeader recorded 15 saves. The Auks, now 6-2, stay at home this Saturday morning at 11:30, welcoming Wilmington Charter.
