Theatre Student Kyla McAvinue '19 Nominated for Cappies Award
Archmere junior Kyla McAvinue '19 received a nomination last week by the Cappies Program for Awards for the 2017-2018 season. Kyla was nominated for "Comic Actress in a Musical" for her role as Pippin's grandmother, "Berthe", in Archmere's winter musical Pippin. Archmere was one of twenty-eight schools who performed musicals in the Greater Philadelphia Area. At the end of the year, the Cappie Awards are presented by local V.I.P.s at a Cappies Gala. This year, the Thirteenth Annual Philadelphia Area Cappies Gala will be held at Unionville High School on Sunday, May 20th at 4:30pm.
At the Cappies Gala, a "Tonys-like celebration", all nominated shows perform a cutting or the critics' choice song, and the final Cappies awards are presented. Student escorts bring the presenters (elected officials, school superintendents, and Cappies alums) to give the Cappies trophy to the peer- chosen recipients, filling the venue with cheers and supportive applause.
