Spring Teams Head Into Playoffs/State Championships
This week Archmere has multiple teams advancing in their playoffs/championships. Starting with tennis, Grace Dignazio '18 competes in the semifinals 1st singles at the University of Delaware, Alisa Yakovenko '18 will compete in 2nd singles and Amy Thompson 3rd singles at St. Andrews today, May 24th at 3:30pm. The girls' tennis team boasted an impressive 12-2 record this spring.
After winning the DSAC Championship, the golf team will begin the State Tournament on Tuesday, May 29th at Odessa National. They also have a notable 12-2-1 record.
The men's lacrosse team (12-3) has made an equally impressive run, taking down Caravel in the first round and making headlines with their big win. They move on to the second round of the State Tournament, facing Cape Henlopen in the DIAA Quarter Finals on Friday, May 25th at 5:00pm at Cape Henlopen High School.
The girls' lacrosse team began the State Tournament last week, defeating Polytech 12-9 in the DIAA Quarter Finals but unfortunately lost to Cape Henlopen in the semifinals. They had a fantastic season with a 12-3 record.
The girls' soccer team was 10-5 for the season, and had a thrilling match against Friends on May 19th in the first round of the State Tournament. The game went into double OT before the girls unfortunately lost by 1 in Penalty Kicks.
At the State Track meet, the girls' team placed 9th. Abigail Kates '20 won the state title in the high jump, placed 3rd in both the long and triple jump and Bridget Hogue took 5th in long jump. The men's team placed 14th with Seth Bale '19 taking 5th in the 3200 and 6th in the 1600 meter run and David Bondi '18 placed 3rd in the discus.
The Archmere baseball team (12-6) has secured the 13th seed in the State Tournament, taking on Newark Charter at home in the first round at 4:00 today.
