Abby Kates '20 Signs To Track And Field Team At Bucknell University

Abigail Kates, senior at Archmere Academy, signed her National Letter of Intent to join Bucknell University’s Track and Field team on November 14, 2019. Bucknell University is a Division 1 athletic program located in Lewisburg, PA. A multi-sport athlete since freshman year, Abby has been a standout on both the volleyball court and the track at Archmere.
Abby was recognized for her athletic talent freshman year, when she was named the Archmere Freshman Student Athlete of the Year in 2017. Since then, she has been named to the Delaware Track and Field First Team All-State for the past three years, and has claimed the Delaware High Jump State Championship Title for Indoor Track in 2017 and 2018, along with the Outdoor Track Championship Title in 2018 and 2019. In addition, she successfully competed at the national level and placed third at the USATF Junior Nationals High Jump competition in 2018. Recognized as a leader by her coach and peers, Abby was voted the indoor track and field captain every year since 2017, and the captain of the outdoor track and field team in 2019.  
 
An athlete who also excels in the classroom, Abby received Summa Cum Laude Honor Roll recognition for her academic excellence in the classroom in 2017, 2018, and 2019 and the DIAA Academic Award in the 2019 Volleyball State Tournament. She is also a member of the National Honors Society. This year she serves as the Archmere Student Council Vice President and is the Auks Beat Cancer Club President. 
 
In addition to her track and field honors, Abby has been an integral member of the very successful Archmere volleyball team. A varsity player since 2017, Abby helped the team reach the playoffs each year, and even an appearance at the 2018 State Championship match at the University of Delaware. For her final season this year, she was named Captain of the team, 2nd Team All-Conference, and led the Auks to an 11-4 winning record and quarterfinal playoff run. 
 
Abby is a graduate of St. Thomas the Apostle elementary school in Glen Mills, PA and plans to study Communication and Marketing in the Freeman College of Management at Bucknell University next fall.
