Students studying Chinese at Archmere celebrated the Chinese New Year together the week of Jauary 25th. They cooked and ate "Family Reunion Dinner" together, wrote Spring Festival couplets, and created folk art.
Some required dishes for Family Reunion Dinner are fish, chicken, noodles, dumplings, and Chinese mustard green. Each dish has a special meaning. For instance, Fish 魚, yú. The Chinese family intentionally does not finish this dish, and the remaining fish is stored overnight. The Chinese phrase 年年有魚/餘 (nián nián yǒu yú, lit. "every year there is fish/leftover"), is a homophone for phrases translating to "be blessed every year" or "have abundant profit every year".
