Monthly College Counseling Update: October 2020
Deadlines
We are quickly approaching November 1st, the most popular application deadline for Archmere students. One of the impacts of the pandemic on college admissions is that several schools have moved back their 11/1 deadlines (Michigan, Villanova and Penn State are a few examples). Most Early Action and Early Decision application decisions will be released in mid-December; however, delayed deadlines will also result in some later decisions.

Grades and SAT Scores
Quarter-one grades will be available during the second week of November for students to share (this is optional). That process has been explained in College Seminar class. At this point, 90% of seniors have submitted at least one application. Those seniors that took the October in-school SAT should receive their scores on 11/4 and are encouraged to communicate with the College Counseling Office concerning the use of those scores with their 11/1 deadline schools and all future application submissions.

Junior Kick Start
Wednesday, November 18th will be the unofficial kick-start to the college search process for the Class of 2022. Admission representatives from McGill University, University of Georgia, Providence College, University of Delaware, and Lebanon Valley College will participate in a virtual Q&A panel, sharing their knowledge and recommendations to students and parents about the process. This program is required for juniors, and parents and other members of the community are more than welcome to attend. A link will also be available for any sophomore students and parents that wish to attend. The program will start at 7 pm. Juniors will have individual meetings with their college counselors over the months of December and January. Parents are asked to attend one of the two upcoming Junior Parent Nights; those dates will be announced soon.
