We don’t think any office was more disappointed about the forced-virtual week than College Counseling. We were enjoying introductory meetings with the juniors - their energy and optimism is infectious. This week was also the biggest for colleges releasing early action and ED application decisions. We missed celebrating with our seniors, excited about their futures and opportunities. We’re also disappointed not to be able to meet in person with our students that didn’t receive the news that they had hoped. We assure them that their futures are still ahead of them, they control their fates, and their lists are full of amazing places; all of which will help them chart a course to happiness and success.
We’re still accessible via email and Zoom to talk about decisions. The overwhelming majority of decisions have been positive and we’ve seen the continued trend of colleges deferring more and more applicants. Students have been counseled and educated about these decisions, however, if anyone has any questions they should reach out via email to their college counselor.
Parent Nights, Testing and Junior Career Day
The first of two Junior Parent Nights occurred on December 14th. If you did not attend this program, please register for the January 13th program. Many juniors participated in the free practice ACT offered last weekend. A communication went out today about the January practice SAT. An announcement about in-school SAT testing in the spring will be coming soon. We want to assist our juniors in having opportunities to test this spring. As previously stated, junior introductory meetings have started. The office is attempting to have as many in person as possible. Prior to returning to school, new meeting slots will be made available for the week of 1/11 . Finally, we’re excited to announce that Junior Career Day will be on January 21st this year. We will welcome 16 to 20 professionals from varied careers to talk to our juniors virtually and in-person. More information to come.
Sophomore Testing
Sophomores had an opportunity to self administer a full ACT practice test. They will be invited in the near future to take an optional online practice SAT in January. Our adapted academic schedule has made it difficult for College Counseling to see the sophomores in the fall and early winter. We’re hoping to provide students access to CIALFO, our college search and organization site, sometime in the spring.
