Erin Pearson '20 Completes an 8-week Internship at Yoga Studio in Barcelona

Erin Pearson '20 is a junior at UNC Chapel Hill majoring in Nutrition, with a double-minor in Entrepreneurship and Medical Anthropology. Through public health classes at UNC, Erin developed a strong passion for both women’s health and absolving health inequities, so she is now a certified birth doula and works with low-income women in the Chapel Hill - Raleigh - Durham area. This summer, she traveled abroad for a once in a lifetime experience.
"I was able to get UNC class credit by fulfilling a Spanish-speaking internship, specifically at a local yoga studio in Barcelona. Though my primary responsibilities included social media management, content creation, and organizational tasks, the true learning I experienced was in collaborating with a team of people across cultural barriers. Being the only non-native speaker in this environment pushed me to take more risks when speaking Spanish and consider how American work values influence my day-to-day thinking. I am indescribably grateful for my Spanish classes at Archmere; I didn’t have the chance to take any more formal Spanish classes since graduating high school, so I only had my foundation from Archmere to get by. I was able to live and work entirely in Spanish, which enabled me to form relationships with my coworkers who eventually became family."
