Ava Courtney '23 Chosen to Serve on Youth Philanthropy Board

The Delaware Community Foundation (DCF) is a nonprofit organization focused on partnering with donors
to build opportunity and advance equity in Delaware. Their mission is to improve the lives of the people of Delaware by empowering and growing philanthropy through knowledge and relationships, now and in the future. Fifty-three students were chosen to sit on the Youth Philanthropy Board, four from the Diocese of Wilmington, including Archmere senior Ava Courtney.  The board gives the students the opportunity to distribute grants to local charities, as part of the DCF. The New Castle County board, which features all four Catholic school students, will have $15,000 to distribute.
The students have to work together to choose a focus area, solicit and review grant applications, conduct site visits, and decide how to distribute the money to have the greatest impact. “The Youth Philanthropy Board program does more than give kids the chance to make a difference,” DCF president and chief executive Stuart Comstock-Gay said. “It gets them out into the community to experience firsthand the impact their work has on people’s lives.”
