Let's Renovate the House! Archmere Academy receives a $3 million donation from the Rocco and Mary Abessinio Foundation.

The Rocco and Mary Abessinio Foundation has made a $3 million donation to Archmere Academy; two million to underwrite the renovation of the Performing Arts Center, constructed in 1983 and one million to underwrite need-based scholarships.
Additionally, one million of the $2 million for the Performing Arts Center has been established as a 1:1 challenge grant, hoping to encourage other donors to contribute to the renovation project. The Center includes a 700-seat theater, lobby, art gallery, backstage “green room,” dressing rooms, and choral and band rooms. The official name for the complex will be “The Rocco A. and Mary Abessinio Performing Arts Center.”

“As a school and faith-filled community, we are so grateful for the continued philanthropy of Rocco and Mary Abessinio. The Foundation’s gift is the largest one-time gift ever received by Archmere Academy,” comments Dr. Michael A. Marinelli, ’76, Head of School. “The Abessinio Family has been most supportive of our educational and formative work over the years.”

Having previously given $1 million to establish need-based scholarships for children who wish to attend Archmere from the Saint Rocco Parish community in Avondale, PA, the program, in its eighth year, has produced successful graduates who have moved on to competitive college programs and have garnered prestigious awards. Dr. Marinelli adds, “Rocco and Mary Abessinio have truly been partners in fulfilling our mission and vision as a Catholic Christian school that provides a transformational experience to teenagers who are motivated to learn and whose families might need financial support to access an Archmere education.”

The timeline for the exciting renovation project for the Rocco A. and Mary Abessinio Performing Arts Center has a completion date of Winter, 2025, with renovations beginning in June, 2024 after graduation. The scholarship program continues to be a pivotal resource in the admissions process for deserving students and their families. Click here to learn more and how you can help "Renovate the House!"
