Kevin Xiao '27 Qualifies for United States of America Junior Mathematical Olympiad
Kevin Xiao '27 has qualified for the USAJMO (United States of America Junior Mathematical Olympiad), one of the most prestigious math honors for high school students in the U.S. Kevin first took the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) Math test and was 1 of 5,000 (from roughly 50,000) to be invited to move on to the take the American Invitational Mathematics Exam (AIME). From that point, Kevin was 1 of about 250 students in the country that moved on to qualify for the USAJMO! Kevin is the only student from Delaware represented this year.
In addition, Kevin has been accepted to the Stanford University Mathematics Camp (SUMaC) this summer, a highly selective 4-week residential summer program with an acceptance rate of just 5–6%. Only 40 students are admitted each year. Kevin will participate in advanced mathematics through lectures, guided research, and group problem solving on campus. Per the SUMaC website, "In an environment centered on mathematics, participants explore current lines of mathematical research, the historical development of important areas of mathematics, and applications across scientific disciplines."
Last summer, Kevin also participated in the Ross Mathematics Program, another highly regarded math camp with an acceptance rate of around 8–12%. He was honored to receive one of the program’s Book Awards for his efforts and contributions. The Ross Program is a 6-week intensive summer experience designed to encourage motivated pre-college students to explore mathematics. During those weeks, students are immersed in a world of mathematical discovery.
Congratulations and the best of luck to Kevin as he prepares for the USAJMO!
