Meredith Finger '26 Captures State Golf Championship
Archmere senior Meredith Finger claimed the DIAA Girls Individual Golf Championship in dominant fashion, following her opening-round 71 with a 75 in the final round to secure a 12-stroke victory. Archmere junior Hannah Webb placed second. The DIAA State Tournament took place at Baywood Greens Golf Course in Long Neck, May 26th through May 27, 2026.
Entering the second round with a five-stroke lead, Meredith continued to separate herself from the field throughout the day. By the midway point of the round, she had stretched the advantage to eight strokes and never looked back, maintaining control despite three bogeys on the back nine.
According to the News Journal, Meredith stated, “I knew coming in today that I had a pretty good buffer, but I definitely wanted to extend it because that’s just such a big thing on the back nine. I definitely missed a few putts and stuff, just out of adrenaline and nerves and kind of knowing where I was.”
The championship performance caps an outstanding senior season for Meredith and highlights a strong showing for the Auks, with Hannah Webb finishing as runner-up to complete an impressive 1-2 finish for the Archmere girls team.
