Two students, Erin Moffitt '11 and Tory Sylvestre '13, each received the JDRF "Golden Sneaker Award" for raising over $1000 for the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes. Several other members the Archmere community contributed to this cause, as well.
The Sylvestre family would like to express their appreciation to the Archmere community for their generous support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
Over the past year, Archmere's involvement has produced several notable results: Two students, Erin Moffitt '11 and Tory Sylvestre '13, each received the JDRF "Golden Sneaker Award" for raising over $1000 for the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes. Erin collected donations at the Archmere canteen and Tory organized a tag day with the help of StuCo members. The Boy's Soccer team participated in the JDRF Walk as members of "Marco's Crew" in support of alum, Marco DiPrinzio '10, and raised over $3000. And the Boy's Baseball team held a donation contest to pick which baseball coach should get his head shaved in support of diabetes research.
More importantly, Archmere's spirit and compassion is noticed by the local community. A few weeks ago, at a Delaware JDRF activity, Archmere's tag day and walk participation was highlighted as an example for families with young children recently diagnosed with diabetes. Archmere's demonstration of collective support provides encouragement and a sense of uplifting to families who are directly affected by diabetes.
