Rachel Gillen '11 named Gatorade Player of the Year

From the News Journal: Archmere senior Rachel Gillen has been named the Gatorade Delaware Softball Player of the Year for the third straight season. Gillen is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year award, which will be announced later this month.
The 5-foot-9 left-handed pitcher went 18-1 with a 0.41 ERA and 253 strikeouts in 120 innings this season. She hurled 12 shutouts and five no-hitters and batted .679 with 31 RBIs. Gillen concluded her prep career with a 69-10 record, a 0.33 ERA and 1,150 strikeouts against 87 walks in 515 innings. Gillen is one of only eight players nationally to earn Gatorade state softball player of the year honors three times.
Gillen has maintained a 3.22 weighted GPA and makes meals for the homeless on behalf of two local charities. She has volunteered for the Special Olympics and as a youth pitching instructor. Gillen has signed a letter of intent to play softball at the University of Virginia this fall.
