Over the Easter Break this year, 8 Archmere students and 3 teachers travelled down to Avery County, NC to work with the Habitat for Humanity affiliate site there. Those participating in the trip were: Jason Andrechak ’13, Gabby Fortunato ’12, Leigh Henjes ’13, Kevin Murphy ’12, Emily Pinto ’12, Lexi Schubert ’12, Kerry Walsh ’12, and student leader Abby Young ’12. The faculty chaperones were: Mr. Michael Johnson, Mr. Neil McCall, and Ms. Jillian Waldman. This was the fifth straight year that Archmere has gone to work with Avery County Habitat for Humanity. While there, students and teachers worked on a house for the Calhoun family, helping to build a front and back porch for the house. We also spent some time painting doors and molding that will be used at various future Habitat homes. Avery County is located in western North Carolina and is right near the beautiful Grandfather Mountain, which we had the opportunity to visit throughout the week. It was an incredible week to share with the community of Avery County and it was great to continue what has become a lasting connection for the students of Archmere Academy and the families of Avery County, NC.
