Archmere Senior Ali Hazel Named Jefferson Scholar

Archmere senior Alexa Leigh Hazel has been named a Jefferson Scholar by the Jefferson Scholars Foundation at the University of Virginia. Scholars are selected based on the Jeffersonian ideals of excellence in leadership, scholarship, and citizenship. Over 3700 schools from across the nation and the world were invited to nominate this year. After being chosen as Achmere’s nominee, Alexa was selected by the Regional Selection Committee in the Delaware area following a rigorous interview.

Scholars are selected based on the Jeffersonian ideals of excellence in leadership, scholarship, and citizenship. After being chosen as Achmere’s nominee, Alexa was selected by the Regional Selection Committee in the Delaware area following a rigorous interview. In late March Alexa was one of 104 finalists who participated in the Jefferson Scholars Selection Weekend from which 30 scholarship winners were named.
 
 
Jefferson Scholarships are granted solely on the basis of merit and provide full financial support for four years of study at the University of Virginia. The value for the 2012 – 2013 academic year is $49,098. The Scholarships are renewable for eight semesters; the actual value of the Scholarships may be adjusted yearly to reflect changes in the estimated cost of attending the University. In addition to full cost of attendance each Jefferson Scholar is invited to participate in various special enrichment programs sponsored and underwritten financially by the Foundation.
