Archmere Junior Earns Spot in Student Leaders Internship Program

Archmere junior Jacqueline Sinnott was one of 5 high school students chosen in the state of Delaware for the 2013 Bank of America Student Leaders Program. Approximately 70 Delaware high school students applied and there are a little over 200 chosen nationwide. During this 8-week paid internship, Jacqueline will work at the Latin American Community Center for 35 hours a week. The program culminates in a trip to Washington, D.C. for the National Leadership Summit in July.
The application process required students to submit several essays regarding things such as previous leadership experience and personal growth, past volunteer efforts, what challenges we view in our community and proposed solutions, a role model, and what you hope to gain from the program along with a teacher recommendation for the application process.

A big part of the internship involves giving students the opportunity to learn about the work it takes to run a nonprofit organization. The interns are invited to attend various meetings with the board of directors to see what happens "behind the scenes" and are asked to propose a project of their own to the Latin American Community center at the end of the 8 weeks.

During the all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. for the National Leadership Summit in July, there are many activities organized for the interns, including a day at Capitol Hill and Mock Congress, audiences with Pulitzer Prize winners and  fun activities to build leadership skills.
