Archmere Parents Take Time to Reflect: Mothers' Guild and Fathers' Club Retreats
This March, both parent organizations hosted retreats on campus, which provided an opportunity for current and past parents to reflect and pray in community.
The Fathers’ Club Retreat, held on Saturday, March 8, featured a morning session discussing "Fatherhood and Faith" under the guidance of guest speakers Don Saleski and Msgr. Robert Carroll. Over twenty members of the Archmere community gathered to share fellowship and reflect on their relationship with God in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Saleski, a member of the Stanley Cup champion Philadelphia Flyers during the “Broad Street Bullies” era in the 1970’s, is the father of two Archmere alumni as well as a noted business and community leader. His presentation about the “journey of faith” and his personal system of values was interspersed with recollections of his professional hockey career, and was well received by those gathered.
Carroll, a former Director of Spirituality at St. Charles Seminary, led the group in reflection on what it means to be a father in a religious context, and shared passages from the Bible which augmented the discussion. Following his presentation, he also served Mass to conclude the activities for the day, assisted by Fathers’ Club event co-organizer John Pileggi '77. Principal John J. Jordan, III '80 was present for the day.
The Mothers' Guild Retreat, held on Wednesday March 12, was organized by Fr. Joseph McLaughlin, O.Praem. and included a mass and breakfast in The Patio. Over 35 member of the Archmere community were in attendance. Headmaster Dr. Michael A. Marinelli '76 shared words of welcome with the current and past moms in attendance and provided music ministry for the mass.
