Archmere freshman Shreyas Parab of Pennsylvania received a $7,500 grand prize last month from the annual business pitch competition sponsored by the University of Delaware's Horn Program in Entrepreneurship. He and his partner, a Scripps National Spelling Bee co-champion from New York, also earned $1,000 in prize money for their respective schools to apply towards entrepreneurial education. Their business proposal, Spell for Success, is a mobile application designed to help spellers prepare for the national spelling bee.
In addition to his win at the Diamond Challenge, Shreyas is the CEO of the tie company NovelTie, which was selected in April as a finalist at the Saunders Semi-Finals Northeastern Competition. As a finalist, he is invited to the Small Business Summit in Washington D.C. on June 8-9th. Shreyas will compete against the other 5 finalists selected from across the country to win college scholarships and funds to expand his company. In addition, Shreyas and the other finalists will be flown down to Bentonville, Arkansas to pitch their respective companies in front of national retailers Sam’s Club and Walmart. The finalists of the national competition will be given various scholarships and funds to extend their business, and the national winner will be given a fast track ticket to compete in the television series, “Shark Tank”.
