Sophomore Shreyas Parab Makes Pitch to Sam’s Club and Walmart

Archmere sophomore Shreyas Parab is the CEO of his own tie company, NovelTie, which was selected in April as a finalist at the Saunders Semi-Finals Northeastern Competition. As a finalist, he was invited to the Small Business Summit in Washington D.C. this summer and presented with the opportunity to meet with top executives at Sam's Club and Walmart to talk about his line of creative ties last week.

This past spring, Shreyas received a $7,500 grand prize from the annual business pitch competition sponsored by the University of Delaware's Horn Program in Entrepreneurship. He and his partner, a Scripps National Spelling Bee co-champion from New York, also earned $1,000 in prize money for their respective schools to apply towards entrepreneurial education. Their business proposal, Spell for Success, is a mobile application designed to help spellers prepare for the national spelling bee.

The News Journal writes: Parab said even if he had not won, the experience was extremely beneficial. “I can’t say this enough, the Diamond Challenge had a significant impact on me,” he said. “Instead of seeing problems, I want to solve the problem with the entrepreneurial mindset in me.”
