Rachel Grant '18 Earns Chinese Immersion Program Scholarship

The National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, provides merit-based scholarships for eligible high school students and recent high school graduates to learn less commonly taught languages in summer and academic-year overseas immersion programs.

Archmere sophomore and Chinese language student Rachel Grant '18 was chosen for the award. Rachel will travel to China this summer for a forty-four day immersion program, home-stay, and intensive courses at the Xiamen University in southeast China. Additionally, Rachel will participate in excursions to key sites in China. This award includes her airfare and program fee and totals nearly $10, 000.

Part of a U.S. government initiative that prepares American citizens to be leaders in a global world, NSLI-Y aims to provide opportunities to American youth that will spark a lifetime interest in language learning.
