After a slow start, the Archmere volleyball team made headlines with their comeback as they swept DMA 3-0 in a volleyball championship rematch Tuesday night. After a quick time out by coach Mary Pat Kwoka, the Auks, currently 8-0, recovered from a huge first-set deficit and set the tone for a big night. The News Journal writes of Coach Kwoka's pep talk:
I jokingly said ‘can somebody get an Archmere program for my Archmere players because they haven’t shown up yet.’ Kwoka said. Then I sort of cracked a couple of jokes and set little things that we keep inside our locker room, and I said ‘we’re going to get one point at a time and start having fun. Win, lose or draw, let’s start having fun. That’s what high school volleyball is all about.'
Archmere went on to win the first set 25-21, the second 25-17 and the third 25-18. The night was paced by 7 kills from Julia Kochie '20, 11 digs from Mackenzie Popp '20, and 9 team blocks.
The Auks move on to take on Ursuline at home on Friday evening.
