AP Drawing and Painting and Introduction to Philosophy Classes Take Interdisciplinary Field Trip to the Brandywine River Museum

On December 14, Terry Newitt's AP Drawing and Painting class, along with Matt Chominski's Introduction to Philosophy class, went on an interdisciplinary field trip to the Brandywine River Museum. They also made stops at the Chadds Ford Gallery, Andrew Wyeth's Studio, and Keurner's Farm (now on the national register), the site of many of Andrew Wyeth's most notable paintings. Mr. Newitt and Mr. Chominski each conducted  lectures to the combined groups on art and philosophy during the two days leading up to the trip.

Archmere Dramatics To Present Avenue Q (School Edition)

Winner of the Tony "Triple Crown" for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book, Avenue Q School Edition is a laugh-out-loud musical that tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton, who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. Because the original Avenue Q has some content elements that have previously made it a difficult choice for some high school productions, MTI worked with the Avenue Q authors to create an adaptation that maintains the dramatic (and comedic) intention and integrity of the piece, while editing it to make it more appropriate for high school audiences and performers.

Filled with gut-busting humor and a delightfully catchy score, not to mention puppets, Avenue Q is a truly unique show that has quickly become a favorite for audiences everywhere. The Archmere cast will have the privilege of learning from and working with Rick Lyon, the puppeteer who conceived and designed the puppets for the 2004 Tony award-winning Best Musical. During the week of January 11th, Rick will be giving three, 3-hour puppeteering workshops to our students. Rick's company, The Lyon Puppets, built all of the puppets for Avenue Q, and Rick also originated the roles of Nicky, Trekkie Monster, and other characters. Archmere's presentation of Avenue Q will run the weekend of February 24th, 2017.
