Archmere Girls Tennis Sweeps All-State First Team Honors After Historic DIAA Championship Run
The Archmere Academy girls tennis team capped off a historic spring season with a clean sweep of the DIAA All-State First Team, earning all seven spots on the top team selected by a panel of Delaware high school girls tennis coaches.
Following a dominant performance at the DIAA Tennis Tournament on May 20, the Auks swept all five divisions and captured the program’s first team state championship since 2009. Archmere finished the tournament with a perfect 30 points, solidifying its place as the top girls tennis program in Delaware.
Leading the way was freshman standout Caroline Jiao, who claimed the first singles state championship and was named DIAA Girls Tennis Player of the Year. The second-seeded Jiao defeated fourth-seeded Mikaila Mastrandrea of St. Andrew’s in the championship match, winning 6-0, 6-0 to secure her first state title.
“I just stayed focused,” Jiao said. “I didn’t try to worry too much about the spectators and everything.”
Jiao’s championship was one of five individual division titles that fueled Archmere’s team victory. Joining her on the All-State First Team were Akilah Yu, third singles champion Susie Shipley, first doubles champions Lauren Nguyen and Jessica Li, and second doubles champions Emily Shipley and Rebecca Wang.
The historic sweep highlights the depth and talent of the Auks’ roster, as every division contributed to a championship performance that brought home Archmere’s first girls tennis team title in nearly two decades.
With a state championship, Player of the Year recognition, and a complete All-State First Team sweep, the 2026 Archmere girls tennis team has earned its place among the most successful teams in program history.
