Building Bridges Across Disciplines

Archmere alumni faculty members Mr. Creekmore ’11 and Dr. Silverman ’00 recently teamed up to create an interdisciplinary, project-based learning experience that brought engineering and 3D design together.
On Friday, October 16, students from Mr. Creekmore’s Engineering Design Practicum in Science and Dr. Silverman’s 3D Design Principles course in Art & Design were paired into teams and challenged to design and build a bridge within a single class period.

Working with identical material kits and specific design parameters, the teams had just one 70-minute class period to design and build a self-supporting bridge capable of spanning eight inches, putting their creativity, problem-solving, and engineering skills to the test.

The project offered a hands-on opportunity for students to apply concepts from two disciplines and discover how collaboration can lead to innovative design solutions.
