Monthly College Counseling Update: October 2026

Seniors

Over 95% of seniors submitted a college application prior to Sunday’s 11/1 popular deadline. To celebrate this milestone, College Counseling is hosting a donut, hot chocolate, and coffee gathering during the Work Period on Monday, November 2. We recommend everyone congratulate seniors on their successful submissions. This by no means marks the end of the college application and search process, but it is a major milestone nonetheless.
Quarter-one grades should be finalized next weekend. College Counseling will be sending out a form for all seniors to complete to inform our office whether they want their grades shared with colleges they’ve applied to. An email will be sent when grades are available and quarter-one grade submission has been finalized. This was discussed in College Seminar this cycle as well.

As most seniors have completed some of their college applications, we’d like to urge parents and guardians to make progress in completing financial aid forms. The FAFSA and CSS Profile deadlines for schools will be published on their financial aid websites and are likely different based on the application process the student is using. Here’s a video of our financial aid webinar from last month.

Juniors

Our Junior College Panel will be at 6:30pm on November 19th in the Theater. We’re excited to invite five admission professionals to participate in a Q&A to help juniors better understand the college search, application, and selection process. While many families have already started the process, this is the unofficial commencement of the class’s college search. Attendance is mandatory for the Class of 2028. Parents and guardians are more than welcome to attend, as are all members of the Archmere community.

Archmere will be hosting an in-school SAT test for the Class of 2028 on March 12th. This test is optional, and Mr. Jezyk will be sending out registration information at a future date. Practice ACT information for December 5th and practice SAT information for January 9th will be emailed out next week.

Our Career Field Trip to the Lehigh University School of Business was a success. Six sophomores and juniors used their day off to tour campus, attend a business information session, tour Lehigh’s Business Innovation Building, and dine in the food court.

Sophomores

Students and families are more than welcome to attend the Junior College Panel on November 19th if they are interested in getting an early start and hearing good advice.

Information for the practice ACT on December 5th and the practice SAT on January 9th will be emailed out next week.

First Year Students

We hope you’re having a smooth transition to Archmere both academically and socially. As you get comfortable, please continue to seek out opportunities to get involved and find things that really interest you. If some of your coursework is challenging to the point of becoming a struggle, please talk to your teachers and counselors to see what types of resources are in place to help you succeed. The College Counseling Office has a few touchpoints in the spring semester to engage with your class. You are always welcome to stop in the Counseling Suite to ask questions.

College Counseling Networking

The College Counseling Office will be visiting Cornell, NJIT, Gettysburg, Ithaca, Hobart & William Smith, and Muhlenberg this month. We will also be hosting the College Counseling Roundtable program at Villanova in December with special guests Matt Harris (Executive Director of Undergraduate Admission at Villanova) and Grant Gosselin (Dean of Admission and Financial Aid at Boston College). This program is attended by 60–80 college, independent, and school counselors twice a year.
