Lauren Wilson '20 Wins Pennsylvania Society for Biomedical Research Contest

The Pennsylvania Society for Biomedical Research (PSBR) is a non-profit science education organization formed in 1990 by universities, medical schools, pharmaceutical firms, and professional societies in Pennsylvania and Delaware to foster a better understanding of the benefits of biomedical research to human and animal health, as well as the necessity for the humane treatment of animals in such research. Each year they host an Essay Contest for students who wish to discover the connection between biomedical research, animal research, and their daily lives. Archmere sophomore Lauren Wilson was recently named a winner of the contest, and invited to the Annual Awards dinner on Friday, June 1, 2018 at the Hershey Lodge, where she will be honored and also receive a cash award.

This year's Essay Contest topic was "Biomedical Research and My Life". Lauren had to investigate the process of biomedical research, including the role of animals in that research, that leads to the development of new treatments and cures. In this research, students were able to learn how medicines, medical devices, and/or surgical procedures are developed with the help of animal models and human clinical trials.
