Field Hockey Wins Diamond State Athletic Conference Title
On November 2, the Archmere field hockey team took on Wilmington Charter, the victory crowning them Diamond State Athletic Conference Champions. The match, originally scheduled for September 23, was a fast-paced, up-and-down game in the light rain. The 4-3 win, secured on a late goal by Rebecca Olsen '23, earned the Auks the Diamond State Athletic Conference title for the season.
Three minutes after a quick goal by Charter, Maura Read '25 equalized for the Auks. They took the lead later in the quarter, when Lindsey Renshaw '23 found the back of the cage on a shot from a sharp angle.
The back-and-forth game continued into the final 15 minutes. The Auks missed on two penalty corners and fought off a two-minute shorthanded situation. Finally, with fewer than five minutes remaining, they had one more corner. Bella Dell’Oso '23 inbounded to Rebecca Olsen '23, and her shot was good. Bella made the play possible with a steal and shot that was deflected over the end line, setting up the penalty corner.
Archmere finished with an 8-5 shot advantage and eight penalty corners to six for Wilmington Charter. Goalie Bella Hughes '24 had two saves. The Auks ended the regular season with a 12-3 record and are seeded #2 in the State Tournament. They have a first round bye, and will play the next round on Saturday, November 13th at home at 11:00.
