Success of Archmere Academy’s National Art Honor Society Featured in National Webcast

The National Art Education Association selected Archmere Academy’s National Art Honor Society Chapter as the national spotlight high school NAHS chapter for a live webcast on October 27, 2022. The National Art Honor Society program inspires and recognizes students with an outstanding ability and keen interest in the visual arts.
The purpose of NAHS is to inspire and recognize those students who have shown outstanding ability in art; foster excellence and a dedicated spirit to the pursuit of art; aid members in working toward the attainment of their highest potential in an art area; bring art to the attention of the school and community; increase an awareness of art in relation to other areas of the school curriculum; and to further aesthetic awareness in all aspects of the school’s total program. Student members gain leadership development as well as exclusive opportunities for awards, scholarships, and national exhibition. Archmere Academy’s chapter was selected based on the positive impact of the chapter’s operations and activities for student members.

Last year, NAHS President Jocelyn Zavala Garcia ’22 was selected as the $10,000 grand prize winner for a backpack design contest available only to NAHS members, sponsored by NAEA and the Herschel backpack company based in Canada. Students also launched a note card fundraiser featuring original student paintings to support humanitarian relief efforts in Ukraine, and this year, the chapter is expanding efforts to provide art instruction to children in underserved communities. NAHS Members Grace Yang ‘25, Jace Walker ‘25, Carrie Wiig ‘24, Kaia Yalamanchili ‘24, and NAHS President Helen Qi ’23 and NAHS Vice President Patch Shields ’23 all contributed content for the webcast. Art & Design Department Chair Stephanie Silverman ‘00 serves as Archmere’s NAHS Chapter Moderator.

NAHS art stationery sets featuring student artwork are available for purchase in the Main Office ($5 for a set of three blank notecards and envelopes). Proceeds from the sale of this stationary set benefits humanitarian relief efforts for Ukraine.
