Delaware Online: Archmere outpaces for 2 individual crowns
Archmere's Ali Hazel and John Masicoli finish strong at the Lake Forest Cross Country Festival; story featured in Delaware Online.
Delaware Online - Ali Hazel, who unshackled herself from the travel team last fall, sprinted to the small-school girls championship as Archmere won both individual crowns at the Lake Forest Cross Country Festival.
Hazel left her AAU basketball squad last fall to join Archmere's 70-girl cross country team. She made second team All-State as a junior, finishing seventh in the state meet, while still lettering in basketball and soccer. A 6:16 opening mile gave her control in an 18-second victory....
John Mascioli took command of the boys race in the second mile, becoming the fourth straight Archmere runner to lead all Delaware athletes in the small-schools Lake Forest race. Teammate Evan Guerin finished second.
"My goal was not to lead, but I really felt strong," said Mascioli, who tempered his summer work, never exceeding 50 miles in a week.
