Fred Maahs '80 Speaks to Students about Resilience and Giving Back
Archmere Alum Fred Maahs '80 spoke to the student body in an assembly this past Tuesday, December 11th. Fred's major themes focused on the values of resilience and the ability to bounce back from setback, as well as the idea that giving back to the community is his personal passion.
A 1980 Archmere graduate, Fred was disabled in a boating accident the summer following his senior year. After a career in banking, Fred has followed his passion of community service. Fred is currently the Director of Community Investment for Comcast Corporation, and Vice President of the Comcast Foundation. Fred is responsible for the strategic leadership of Comcast’s national partnerships with organizations including City Year, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, and Teach For America. Fred Maahs joined Comcast in December of 2007 as the Senior Director, Community Investment - Programs and National Partnerships. In that role, Fred was responsible for the company’s national signature community investment programs - Comcast Cares Day, the Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program, and the annual United Way campaign.
