Alison Paige Newitt '95 named Top Local Female Musician in Philly

Alison Paige Newitt '95 was recently named one of Philly’s rising top fiive female musical stars by CBS Philadelphia.  "Aly," bassist and vocalist for AlyCat, has performed throughout the country with Alycat, David Bromberg, the Angel Band and BrotherSister. In the past, she has appeared with Rusted Root, The Heavy Pets, Kenny Rogers, Arlo Guthrie and more. She has performed at the Filmore West, World Cafe Live, the Philadelphia Folk Festival, the Great American Music Hall and many more. In 2008, Newitt was chosen as Philadelphia’s Songwriter of the Year by PSP. Newitt’s music has been influenced by Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Bootsy Collins and others. Aly was honored as a featured alum at the 2012 Fine Arts Festival at Archmere Academy. 

The band’s first full-length CD release, “Cat Lady,” will be released on April 25th with a performance at the Blockley in Philadelphia. The Heavy Pets featuring Jamie Newitt '02 on drums will also be performing.  The Pets are known for catchy tunes and powerhouse performances spiked with hot electric licks and multi-climactic instrumental solos. For ticket information, click here.
