Student Body President Camryn Hicks '14 Welcomes New Students
At the 2013 Freshman Orientation last week, Archmere Student Body President, Camryn Hicks '14, gave a speech that welcomed the new students and gave them a challenge. "Commit yourself to finding yourself," she said.
"Welcome, Class of 2017. Welcome to the beginning of the rest of your lives. I am student body president, Camryn Hicks. To introduce you to your next four years here as a student would be an impossibly tedious task, but I will attempt to abbreviate some of my knowledge about making it through high school alive.
In accordance with every tweenage cinematic Disney plot line, I can verify that high school will be the most interesting four years of your life. High school is a time to explore all of the opportunities and people around you. I guarantee one of these anonymous faces sitting amongst you, will teach you something about yourself, or give you a new perspective. Throughout the next four years, you will meet more people than you can remember and befriend people whom you will never forget. This brilliant network of inspiration is the most valuable resource that you, as the newest members of Archmere Academy, have at your disposal.
To narrow down my personal experience, I would advise you this: Commit yourself to finding yourself. Contrary to popular belief, high school isn’t about achieving instaFame or getting on the honor roll. High school, more particularly Archmere, is about seeking all of the opportunities before you, and developing through your experience. Archmere has absolutely changed my life, and can only wish to impress upon you the unique culture of this school. I hope you find adventure and success over the next four years, but I really hope you find yourself.
Enjoy the rest of your day. Once again, welcome, Auks."
