Alexander Weir '17 Headed to Ireland for Music Competition
This April, Archmere Academy freshman Alexander Weir competed in the Mid-Atlantíc Fleadh Cheoil and brought home three first place awards, qualifying him to compete in Ireland in August. The Fleadh Cheoil is a festival of Irish traditional music, dance, song and language, and at its heart is the music competition. The Mid-Atlantic Fleadh, one of two provincial qualifying competitions in North America, covers all of the east coast, the Maritimes, and Eastern Canada, and takes place in Parsippany, New Jersey. Musicians who place first or second in their competitions are then qualified to compete that summer in Ireland in the All Ireland Fleadh—the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. Alex won first place in Fiddle Slow Airs, and also took first in the duet and trio categories.
