Alexander Weir '17 Wins Irish Music Competition, Selected to Perform in Studio2Stage
Alexander Weir ’17 competed in the North American Province’s Mid-Atlantic Fleadh (Irish music competition), held in Parsippany, NJ, and came back with two First Place trophies - in fiddle slow airs and in trios. This qualifies him to compete in the “All Irelands” World Championships—the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann—which will be held in Sligo, Ireland this August. Alexander previously competed in the World Championships in Ireland in the summer of 2014, placing third in fiddle slow airs and third in trios.
He has also been selected to perform in Studio2Stage, an Irish music and dance show experience for Irish dancers and musicians ages 15-25. Following an audition process, approximately eighty dancers and six musicians were selected from Ireland, England and across the U.S. to participate in the production. Alexander was one of the six musicians selected. The dancers and musicians will showcase production numbers in New York City and will perform the full show at Kean University, in Union, New Jersey, on August 2nd.
