Five Archmere Baseball Players Compete at the 2015 World Wood Bat Association World Championships

Held annually in early October, the World Wood Bat Association World Championships (WWBA) showcases high school baseball stars from across the United States. Organized by Perfect Game, the WWBA is the last major event of the high school showcase season, and is a tournament unlike any other. The players are the cream of the crop from the amateur ranks (high school seniors and younger), and that track record of talent makes the WWBA World Championship a must-see event for pro scouts, college coaches and agents. Archmere students Tommy Alexander ’19, Emmett Bice ’18, Colin Lynch ’17, Andrew Orzel ’16 and Joseph Singley ’16 all participated in the tournaments this year and played well.

The WWBA is broken into two tournaments: a Jupiter, FL location for high school students graduating in 2016 and a Fort Meyers location for players graduating in 2017 and younger. This year, Fort Myers had 246 teams participating, while Jupiter had 85 teams participating. White Sox scouting director Doug Laumann describes the WWBA tournament as “the biggest and most intense showcase. It falls at a time where it's the only one going on, and it can be overwhelming trying to see everyone."

In addition to playing for Archmere during the spring high school season, all five students are dedicated baseball players who play the sport year round and travel for regional and national competition.
