Archmere Students Perform at the University of Delaware for the Chinese New Year
On Saturday February 27th, The Confucius Institute and the Chinese Students and Scholars Association invited the University of Delaware campus community and the public to a special celebration of the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Monkey, in Mitchell Hall on UD’s Newark campus. Six Archmere students performed a Chinese song at the event. This year, the Chinese New Year fell on Monday, February 8th to start the Year of Monkey in the Chinese zodiac.
The evening was filled with traditional and modern Chinese New Year festivities. The students were able to experience a modern view of the Chinese culture through UD's Hip Hop dance crew as well as traditional dances such as the fire dance. The students were also able to observe traditional Chinese clothing and enjoy popular Chinese delicacies. Archmere Academy's dance of Manual of Youth by TFBOYS was a fun and upbeat Chinese song preformed by students from Ms. Kezhen Yang's Chinese class. Representing Archmere were: Annie Martino '18, Rachel Grant '18, Barbara Boylan '16, Eric Degenfelder '19, Tully Liu '19 and Honor Dearlove '19.
