Mock Election

The AP U.S. Government class concluded a month long Mock Campaign & Election with a school-wide debate during an assembly held on November 7th. Seniors Brennan Stark & Alexa Reilly portrayed the Republican & Democratic party platforms respectively, highlighting the major policies for the recent election. Additionally, students administered polls, engaged in fundraising with special interests, interviewed candidates, and created candidate commercials and posters. The project concluded with a comparative politics study with the AP French class. In total, eleven classes and two clubs partook in this interdisciplinary learning and collaboration.

Spring Break Trip to Belize

The Science Department trip over Spring break this year is to Belize. Deposits are due by Dec 2, at the latest. Students will be exploring both tropical rain forests and other terrestrial habitats, coral reefs and mangroves in marine habitats. Students will travel to Guatamala to see Mayan culture artifacts above ground with their pyramids and in caves underground. The wildlife, including birds and fish and manatees, should be spectacular. The trip is from April 13-21, so students will have the weekend before resuming classes.

Spanish II Celebrates Día De Los Muertos

On November 3rd, the Spanish II class celebrated Día De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) in style. The multi-day holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey. The students created an altar with flowers that they made in class and held a short prayer service in which they prayed for deceased loved ones. In this celebration, the students learned the important Mexican tradition of celebrating someone’s life and remembering them once they have passed on. They told stories and reminisced about their loved ones, and then brought photos of their loved ones to the altar, which was filled with “Pan de Muerto” (bread of the dead), “flores” (flowers), and “papel picado.”  The prayer service concluded with the “Padre Nuestro” (Our Father) and the “Ave María” (Hail Mary).
