John Vaile ’16 (University of Delaware), Sully Bouldon ’16 (William and Mary), Lauren Yoslov ’16 (Saint Joseph’s University), My’Kelya Dickerson ’15 (Lafayette College), Kate Pinto ’15 (Loyola University, MD) and Danny Bannon ’15 (Villanova University) returned to Archmere this past week to address juniors and seniors about their college search and transition. The group took questions from the College Counseling Office and students, continually emphasizing that the preparation they received at Archmere has been key to their success in and outside the classroom in college. They unanimously shared that they feel they’ve been better prepared than most of their college classmates, specifically mentioning their knowledge of outlining and note-taking. My’Kelya also shared that most of her Lafayette classmates paid for independent college counselors rather than them being provided by their high schools, something that shocked her.
Practice Makes Perfect
Over one-hundred Archmere sophomore and juniors took a free practice ACT test offered by Revolution Prep on December 10th. This was an opportunity for students to have an introduction to the ACTs in an effort to help them decide if they prefer it over the SAT. Juniors recently received their PSAT scores, this along with a practice SAT offered on February 11th should provide students with good information in deciding which tests they should take during the spring. Sophomores took the Pre-ACT this fall, are able to take the practice SAT in February, and will take the PSAT in the fall of their junior year. We are also hosting a Test Prep Night on January 24th for families that have questions about making testing decisions.
Junior Parent College Nights
Over eighty parents attended the first of two parent programs for the Class of 2018. Parents are asked to attend one of the two evening programs prior to scheduling a family meeting. The next program is Thursday, January 12th. Parents that did not attend the December program should register for January.
