Archmere Students Earn Awards at 2017 Science Olympiad Competition

The Archmere Science Olympiad Team competed in the Delaware state meet last weekend. Over 60 teams and a thousand high school students competed as their creativity mixed with formula and theory and covered just about every discipline across the science spectrum. Medals are awarded to the top 10 in the state finals. The following students won medals:

  • Anatomy and Physiology--10th place for Lauren Chua and Annie Martino
  • Experimental Design--1st place for Alison Lobo, Kathryn Slomski, and Makala Wang and 8th place for Tully Liu, Becca Lewis-Carpenter, and Emily Lugg
  • Chem Lab--1st place for Anna Zdunek and Helen Laster
  • Ecology--2nd place for Gillen Curren and Natasha Gengler
  • Materials Science--6th place for Madyson McDougal and Grace Zhang
  • Dynamic Planet--10th place for Becca Gomes and Anna Zdunek
  • Forensics--10th place for Alison Lobo and Makala Wang
  • Invasive Species--4th place for Keelin Reilly and Makala Wang
  • Remote Sensing--9th place for Annie Martino and Lauren Chua

Each year one team is awarded a medal for demonstrating extraordinary sportsmanship. The 15 members of the "B" team earned this medal. These students who earned the sportsmanship award were: Seth Bale, Abel Chen, Amanda Denning, Frankie Fanning, Sophie Friedman, Reid Hartman, Becca Lewis-Carpenter, Tully Liu, Emily Lugg, Lewis MacMillan, Michael Marino, Monica Onishi, Julia Prendergast, Sarayu Sivarum and Parker Vakili.
