Girls Basketball Makes Headlines for Diamond State Classic Win

On December 28th the Archmere Girls Basketball team took on Caravel, currently ranked #4 in the state, in the Diamond State Classic Tournament. After defeating them by a score of 70-52 in the first round, the team has advanced to the finals of the First State Orthopedics Cup at the Diamond State Classic. The Diamond State Classic is a girls basketball tournament held at St. Elizabeth's High School, featuring teams from all over the country, even a team from Canada. The tournament is run entirely by volunteers with all profits benefiting the B+ Foundation and the Special Olympics. 
Fiona Teaney '20 scored eight straight points in the first quarter, and ended the night with a game-leading 23 points. Lauren Kim '22 and Madison Stewart '20 joined Fiona in double figures with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Isabella Gioffre '20 added nine, and she was in double figures in rebounds. The Auks improved to 4-2 and will meet Central Dauphin (Pa.) for the First State Orthopedics Cup crown on Monday, December 30 at 6:15 p.m. at the St. E's Center.
