Alex Lu, James D’Elia, and Michael Mallamaci Named National Merit Finalists

Archmere Academy seniors Alex Lu, James D’Elia, and Michael Mallamaci were named National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) Finalists based upon their high scores on the PSAT's, taken in their junior year. These academically talented seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered to the winners. The selection of approximately 7,500 Merit Scholarship award winners from the group of nearly 15,000 will be decided in March.
Alex, James, and Michael were first named Semifinalists in September, meaning their test scores were among the top 1% of the nearly 1.6 million test takers. This month, they were recognized as finalists. A finalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT scores that confirm the student's earlier performance on the qualifying test.
As finalists, Alex, James, and Michael received Certificates of Merit, and NMSC will begin mailing scholarship offers to the winners next month. Congratulations!
