Football Wins Last Game of Regular Season over DMA, Heads to Playoffs

On the morning of November 12 at home on Coaches Field, the Archmere football team forced four turnovers as they defeated Delaware Military Academy, 29-8. With only a one-point margin at the end of the second quarter, Archmere pulled away in the second half and are now riding a five-game winning streak.
The Seahawks struck first on Saturday, capping a drive that lasted nearly nine minutes with a 19-yard touchdown pass, but the extra point was no good. Archmere answered quickly on a 61-yard drive. Kieran Udovich '23 carried several times, including once on a second down for 19 yards to the DMA 19. Once inside the red zone, quarterback Chris Albero '23 ran three straight times, with the Auks facing a fourth and two after his third rush. Albero connected with Brendan Burke '24 from eight yards out. This point after also was no good, leaving the game tied at 6.

With just 36.3 seconds remaining in the half, the Auks regained possession at the Seahawks’ 40. Four passes later, Archmere faced a fourth and 10 from the Seahawks’ 26. Albero found Gavin Lee '24 at the 4. He got out of bounds with just two-tenths of a second left, and Chris connected on a 22-yard field goal for a 9-8 Auks lead at the break.

After halftime, Archmere capitalized on a DMA fumble on the initial second-half possession setting them up at their own 37. After Kieran Udovich '23 began a drive with a 12-yard run, Albero threw to Cole Fenice '24 in the far left corner for a touchdown and a 15-8 lead. The next touchdown came after facing a fourth down from the 18, when Albero kept the ball, running around right end for the score with 6:59 left in the third. A turnover put the ball back in the Auks’ hands. Once again Cole Fenice was on the receiving end of an 8-yard Chris Albero pass with 1:52 to go.

In total, Kieran Udovich rushed 11 times for 93 yards, and he added seven tackles and a fumble recovery. Cole Fenice had 11 tackles. Quarterback Chris Albero passed for two touchdowns, ran for a third and kicked a field goal.

The Auks enter the playoff season against Concord High School on Saturday at 11:00am. Tickets can only be purchased in advance at https://gofan.co/app/school/DIAA
