On Saturday, September 9th at Coaches’ Field on the Archmere campus, the football team kicked off its season with a big win over Saint Elizabeth's. The Vikings struck first, but the Auks proved to be too much to handle and went on to a 42-8 win. Saint Elizabeth's was able to score early and get on the board, even earning the two point conversion, but it didn’t take long for Archmere's offense to strike.
On the first down, quarterback Miles Kempski '24 threw to PJ Blessington '24 who ran 73 yards for a touchdown. Miles added the two-point conversion to tie the score with two minutes left in the first. Immediately following, Jack Dellose '24 recovered a fumble on the second play of the second quarter, giving the home team possession at the Vikings’ 32. Two plays later, Jack Bradley '25 went over the left side for a touchdown to make it 14-8. Archmere would add a safety late in the half when Connor Victoria '24 sacked the Vikings quarterback in the end zone.
The Auks extended the lead with a long drive late in the third quarter. The first play was a 53-yard pass from Miles Kempski '24 to fellow senior Drew Duncan down to the Vikings’ 32. PJ Blessington '24 finished it with a 13-yard run during which he pushed through several defenders. The Auks went on to add three more scores in the fourth quarter.
PJ Blessington '24 led the way with 92 yards on six carries and two touchdowns. Drew Duncan '24 had four receptions for 97 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, PJ Blessington '24 had seven tackles and a fumble recovery, and Miles Kempski '24 added five solo tackles.
Archmere will play Saint Mark’s at home next week. Kickoff is 11:00 a.m.
