Jeff Finocchiaro ’92 Hosts AI Lunch and Learn

Archmere has taken the Lunch and Learn business model and applied it to our educational initiatives, offering sessions that students can voluntarily attend and enjoy a free meal, all while learning about issues and topics that fall outside of their typical classroom day. Guest speakers are often Archmere community members or alumni. On November 17th, Jeff Finocchiaro ’92 returned to campus to lead an interactive Lunch & Learn with 17 current Archmere students. Held in the Patio Music Room, Jeff spoke to the group about Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), focusing on how AI is "changing the world and shaping the future".
According to Archmere Principal Katie Thiel, “The ultimate goal of the Lunch and Learn is to bridge the gap between coursework and careers, curiosities and the professional world. Thanks to the small setting, there is ample opportunity for conversation and engagement amongst the group, and students are bought in.”
Jeff engaged students with a discussion about his career and the use of Generative AI. Sharing his professional story, students learned that while traditional AI aims to perform specific tasks based on predefined rules and patterns, Generative AI goes beyond this limitation and strives to create entirely new data that resembles human-created content. With real world examples and a captivating presentation, the students were encouraged to join in the discussion, ask questions and share information and ideas with each other, and ultimately left the Lunch and Learn with not only a greater understanding of Artificial Intelligence, but also an invaluable connection to an alumnus in the professional world.
Thank you to Jeff Finocchiaro ’92 for engaging our students! The next Lunch and Learn program will focus on Medicine in April 2024.
